It’s that time of year again — with Thanksgiving just around the corner and a slew of holidays in December, many of us are starting to organize our plans for the holiday season. Whether you’re planning to travel and/or host family and friends, the holiday season is one that should be focused on togetherness and good tidings.
However, the season of joy can bring misfortune too. Statistically, the holiday season can pose some serious health and safety risks. Increased traffic hazards, inclement weather and even in-home dangers can all contribute to higher margins of personal injury accidents.
To make sure you and your family enjoy an accident-free holiday season, here are some common safe driving tips and practices to keep in mind.
Safe Driving Saves Lives
While this sentiment is applicable any time of year, you should be taking special heed in and around the holiday season. Every year, holiday travel results in some of the busiest traffic conditions across the country. Additionally, alcohol plays a major factor in contributing to road risks. The National Safety Council reports that alcohol-related traffic fatalities represent one-third of traffic deaths during the holidays.
Whatever your travels plans this year, make sure you prepare for these additional factors on the road in addition to following common car-safety procedure.
